General information only

Everything published on ShiftResume — guides, worked examples, keyword lists, templates and explanations — is general career information provided for educational purposes. It is written for Australian job seekers in general, not for your individual circumstances, and it is not a substitute for advice about your specific situation.

Not professional advice

ShiftResume is an information publisher. Our content is not legal advice, migration advice, financial advice, medical advice or personal career counselling, and reading it does not create any professional or advisory relationship between you and the site or its publisher. Some decisions genuinely need a qualified professional: a migration agent for visa questions, a lawyer or the Fair Work Ombudsman for a workplace dispute, a tax professional for questions about your income, and your registration board for anything affecting your right to practise. Where a guide touches one of those areas, it describes the general picture and points to the responsible authority — follow those pointers.

Check regulated requirements at the source

Many of our guides describe requirements set and enforced by other bodies: registration standards set by AHPRA and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia, worker screening overseen by the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, employment rights and award conditions administered by the Fair Work Ombudsman, and safety guidance published by Safe Work Australia. Those bodies change their requirements, and their current published standards — not our summary of them — are what employers and regulators will hold you to. Always verify registration, screening, licensing and certification requirements with the responsible body before you apply, and treat any conflict between our page and the official source as the official source being right.

Example resumes are fictional

Every person, employer and career history in our worked examples is fictional, created to teach structure and wording. The examples demonstrate how real requirements and keywords are presented; they are not documents to copy with your name on them, and submitting experience, qualifications or registrations you do not hold is misrepresentation — a serious matter in regulated industries, where it can affect registration and employment. Use the structures, use the phrasing patterns, and fill them with your own genuine history.

Pay, awards and conditions

Where guides mention pay, rosters, penalty rates, casual loading or conversion, they describe how those things are generally framed in applications — not what you are entitled to in a particular job. Award coverage and pay rates depend on the employer, the role and the current award, and are set by the Fair Work Commission and administered by the Fair Work Ombudsman. Check your actual award and pay rates at fairwork.gov.au before relying on any general statement here.

No guarantee of outcomes

A good resume improves how your experience reads; it cannot get you a job by itself. We do not guarantee — and no honest publisher can — that following any guide on this site will result in interviews, offers or employment. Hiring decisions depend on the employer, the competition and factors entirely outside a document.

External links, advertising and affiliates

Our guides link to external websites we do not control; we are not responsible for their content, and a link is not an endorsement. The site is funded by advertising and may contain affiliate links, disclosed in our editorial policy and privacy policy; neither advertisers nor affiliate partners influence what our guides say. If anything on this page is unclear, contact us.

Requirements differ between states and territories

Australia runs many of the checks our guides discuss at state and territory level: working with children checks have different names, forms and renewal rules in each jurisdiction; security, driving and food-handling licences are issued by state bodies; and construction induction arrangements are recognised nationally but administered locally. A guide on this site describes the general picture accurately, but the version that applies to you is your state's. When a guide names a check or licence, follow its link or search the issuing body's site for your state before you act.

If something here is out of date

Requirements change — sometimes between our scheduled reviews. If you find a statement on this site that an official source has superseded, the disclaimer position is simple: the official source governs, and we want to fix our page. Tell us through the contact page with a link to the current source, and the correction will be handled under our editorial policy. Until a page is updated, its "Last updated" date tells you how recently it was checked.

About this page

This disclaimer sits alongside our terms of use, privacy policy and editorial policy, and it is linked from every page of the site. Short in-article notices — for example, the note at the top of regulated-role examples pointing readers to AHPRA — are reminders of this page, not replacements for it.
